I've heard for years about how well the Mossberg 835's pattern, supposedly because of the fact they are overbored. Well, I ain't all that smart, but how come all the companies don't overbore their turkey guns? Neill

A lot of companies "back bore" their barrels, just not to the degree of the 835/935.  I'm gonna guess that shotguns sell well in states that only allow slugs for deer hunting, and barrels that overbored aren't safe for use with slugs.  They might be trying to limit their liability....maybe?

I have to agree with stinkpickle on the slug issue and that may be why Mossberg also packages a second barrel for slugs as an option. I don't use slugs so I only bought the single barrel package. The 835 I have is very accurate and patterns well for me.

And companies like Remington which I tried to get them to offer a larger backbore barrel and they wouldn't don't think that bigger backbore barrels offer any advantage whatsoever over their standard .729 to .731 barrels.

Like I said you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.
