Has anyone else noticed the federal TSS seems to like being choked really tight? On me and a couple buddies guns they are shooting these shells way better with a really tight choke. I know this goes against TSS but it's what we are seeing.... anyone else?

That's exactly what I've noticed for three years with my handloads out my 870 and SA459.   No surprise to me...but I know others have seen different results.

Yep they respond well to really tight chokes.  But how tight a pattern do we want?  We keep throwing more and more pellets that fly straighter and hit harder for higher $$$ than anything out there, all while constantly making patterns smaller. Kind of seems counter productive on many levels.

I think its due to those flight control wads, like the fed heavy 7s

it may be they are just responding better to pretty tight chokes...I know not everyone does but I like a hot core

It's still a flight control wad,slight modifications .
Probably right guys.
Defeat the flight control wad like with federal Hw7 .
Remington 21" 870 with the Carlson.640 was my best combo. And I still had some wiggle room in the 20".

Some choke companies such as Trulock now recommend about 0.010" tighter choke for the new TSS #9s and FC Flex wad, compared to the previous choke designed specifically for the Fed HW-7s with the old FC wad.  I'm going through this scenario right now.  For the new TSS #7s, they still recommend the previous original HW-7 choke.
