I've decided to try the heavyweights first.  Which one do you guys like better between 6's & 7's?  Why?

I like the #6's also, they pattern pretty good in my 870 youth
it's not the harvest,it's the chase

They are patterning well with a few different chokes, Rem SF .570, PG tempest in .555 as well.  Depends on how tight a pattern you would like.

No question -- #7s.
You get plenty of pellet penetration energy out to past where you'll be shooting at them with 7s.  The sixes are overkill.   Your performance limitation factor is the pattern density, and the 7s will give you a denser pattern than the sixes, so it's going to give you more range, and be more effective up close also.

I have conditioned my personal range finder (my eyes) through years of hunting turkeys to limit my shots to no more than 40 yards. I call this The Red Zone. When he steps into The Red Zone I know that it is time for the 7's to do their stuff, and they do their stuff very well.
