From my experience out of my Star Dot choke, there is nite and day difference between the 3.5" and the 3' loads of Hevi-13 #7's.  I'll take the heavier payload every single time.  It's not even close.

Yep. No need in running 3" shells in an 835.

I think that you will need to go smaller with the 3 inch.  With the big bore that is in the 835 I think it will like the biggest pay load that you can run down it.   
Tell us just how dead do you want them to be and we will see if we can get that for you.
