What wood combo on a SS field grade box?

Well it looks like I'll be trying out an SS here before too long, and I was wanting to see what you boys liked the best as far as wood goes, on your field grade box calls? Personally, I have always liked a little higher pitched front end, going in to a nice crisp bark on the back end of my box calls. What do you all like?

My SS field grade call is Kwila over Butternut.  I absolutely LOVE that call!!!  Mine has the round ends which I think has more of a "Old School" look.  I own seven SS box calls in all and all of them sound great!!!  If you're looking for certain sound just call Al Shoemaker at SS and just tell him the sound you are looking for & he will make happen....It's that easy!

I've always liked the sound of Al's blk limba boxes, with either a maple or canary lid. The limba has that higher pitched start and a good break in the roll over. The rasp depends on what lid is on it, the maple has a shaper chatter and the canary had a courser deeper chatter?

Zebrawood over Mahogany is a real killer sound. Kwila over Butternut isn't too shabby either.

I have a Kwila over Limba field box call from SS that is a real good call.

  I own four of Al's calls and have another on order, all customs. You asked about Mineral Poplar, have a
2 sider in Mineral Poplar with a Maple lid, it's in my vest, great sound. He's making me a Mineral Poplar
And Padeuk 1 sider now, should have the sound your looking for.
