In reading 2 Timothy, we find Paul in prison, writing his last words to Timothy:

2 Timothy 2:3-7 (NLT)

3 Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 Soldiers don't get tied up in the affairs of civilian life, for then they cannot please the officer who enlisted them. 5 And athletes cannot win the prize unless they follow the rules. 6 And hardworking farmers should be the first to enjoy the fruit of their labor. 7 Think about what I am saying. The Lord will help you understand all these things.

In thinking about the above verses, we can parallel our lives as faithful servants to Jesus Christ:

A. Soldiers don't get tied up in the affairs of civilian life, for then they cannot please the officer who enlisted them.-

As faithful servants, we are to stay focused on God, rather than the daily affairs of society. How are we to hear God's voice, and find favor with Him, if our eyes and ears are turned away?

B. And athletes cannot win the prize unless they follow the rules.-

We can not win the prize of eternal life, without first knowing and professing with our mouths, Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. To win the prize, by following the rules, we must know, study, and exemplify though our actions, God's Word, the Bible.

C. And hardworking farmers should be the first to enjoy the fruit of their labor.

As faithful followers of Jesus Christ, though there will be trials, we are promised victory in the end, not for our glory, but His.

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for reminding us You have already won the battle, and to keep our eyes focused upon You. Help us to understand Your will for us, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. May we exemplify Your love and grace, professing Your Holy name to all those we meet.

May we be familiar through study and action, of Your Holy Word. Help us to win the race, not for our glory, but Yours. For it is in Jesus name we ask and claim these things, Amen!!

God Bless,
David B.
