1 Peter 5:8-9
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:  Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

Just yesterday our son called, he was really upset because some one had gotten his pin number and wiped out his bank account. His day started out normally, but ended up in tragedy. Now he has hours if not weeks to try to fix the wrong doing. A long tiresome journey, all because of a thief, who thought they would devour his earnings, and laugh all the way to the bank about it!
How fast our daily routine can change, all it takes is one act of terror, to ruin our lives. This is why so many agencies warn us as citizens to be "diligent" in watching our possessions, as so with Christ as he warns us of another adversary, the devil, who seeks not to wipe out your bank account but your soul, I for one, believe it's worth is far more valuable then anything here on this earth.
To safeguard our most valuable possession,  we must stand stedfast in our faith, just like safe guarding our pin numbers, to keep thieves from robbing us of our cash, we must protect our soul by being vigilant and sober spiritually, in other words, keeping careful watch for possible danger, and not being influenced by the worldly desires that the devil will use to catch us off guard.
Just like these "cyber thieves" Satan doesn't sit on his laurels, he is constantly on patrol, seeking out those who show any sign of weakness, marking them as his next victim. So, we must NOT think that we are ok today, that we could let down our defenses and go on with our daily routines, this is why Christ made it so apparent, a "drunk" could not watch carefully nor could they react quick enough after the fact, but a sober man could be watchful and see trouble on the horizon and do something about "before" it hits!
For our soul's sake, let us be sober and safeguard our eternal future.
