"The Lord is my Shepherd"   Psalm 23:1

King David may never have studied the textbook definition of metaphor, but in Psalm 23 he brings an abstract, but very real, concept alive.

Writing from his shepherding experience, David paints a picture of the Lord as his shepherd.  He doesn't write, "The Lord is like a shepherd."  He tells us that the Lord IS his shepherd!

It's no wonder that Psalm 23 is the most easily recognizable of all psalms, even by people who are not familiar with the Bible.  Why?  Partly because of this beautiful language,  ...but for believers, its because of the beautiful promise.  If the Lord is our Shepherd, then we are His sheep.  Its a simple promise to believe.  The Lord is my Shepherd.  The Lord loves me.  The Lord has redeemed me and made me His through His precious blood!
