I have my FFII and I am waiting on my 336 mount. When I get my mount I have to have the gun drilled and tapped. Its an 870 Supermag. My question is how far back on the reciever do I need to have it mounted? Towards front, rear, or middle?

I got the same questions, settling for the FFII & prob the 336, just wondering how far back to set the mounting rail

Here a couple pictures of where I had mine mounted if you want to use it as a guide.  I like mine right where she is.  Not too far forward and not too far back, just perfect for me.

The further back (closest to your eye) it is the better your field of view will be.  Look at how far back the speed bead sits.

There's no right or wrong answer to this.  It's all personal preference.

Exactly.  Set the FF on the base and place it on the gun until you find the spot you like.

I like mine 3-5/8" from rear of sight to rear of reciever. Good eye relief, good FOV, and I can still grab the gun a bit in front of the center of the reciever to tote.
