I took my Mossy 930 w/ a PG choke out to sight-in the red dot and to shoot a couple rounds at 40 yards.  Keep in mind that this was only my second time to sight-in a red dot.  Well, it took 5 rounds (2 3/4'" federal high brass #6) to dial-in the red dot at 20 yards.  I think the red dot is more accurate than me.  I'll be the first to admit I need to improve my red dot shooting skills.  I shot a couple of 2 ¾" Winchester Supreme Turkey loads #5's and #6's at 40 yards.  All the shots were a little high and to the left, which could easily been my human error.  At least, my POI seems to be consistent!  I haven't had time to count all the numbers yet, but one of the targets had approximately 135 hits in a 10" circle at 40 yards.  I'm not very impressed with the PG's overall patterns so far...  I'd like to see tighter groups!  What type of numbers (10" Circle) should I be hoping for at 40 yards shooting 2 ¾" shells?  Thanks.

Dont think the choke is your issue.  PG is a great choke.  However you ammo i have never liked for anything past 25-30 yards.  Switch to Hevi-13 #6's or #7's, polish your barrel and i bet $20 your numbers come way up.

i do have some Hevi-13s, but i wanted to use up some of my old shells for practice.  i'll bust out the hevi-13 when i get a little better shooting the red dot.

I don't understand what you mean by get better shooting the red dot.   You put the dot on your target and pull the trigger.

I'd dial it right in with a rest, then shoot the Hevi Shot when you are ready.

I use a led sled to sight in. Makes it much easier and more consistant.

You want atleast 30% to 50% and over 100 pellets.
search "pellet quantities" Find how man are in your shell and do the math.

i'm very curious what 2 3/4 shell it was that gave you your 140 in the 10" at 40yds

if your getting 140's with a 2 3/4 shell then you are good to go, no need for hevi shot, those are great numbers with that shell and combo

optimally in order to kill a turkey you should be able to put a minimum of between 90-100 pellets in a 10" circle at 40yds

lead 6's are 225 per oz
lead 5's are 170 per oz

I'd say you have a pretty dang good choke.  140 hits with a 2 3/4" #5 is outstanding.  Run some 3" or 3.5" Hevishot through it and those numbers will sky rocket.

140 with 2 3/4" shells @ 40 is very good numbers.  Once you switch over to the Hevi-13 your going to see your numbers go much higher.

#11
Here's the #'s I counted tonight:

2 ¾" Winchester Supreme Turkey loads #5's (PG choke) = 97 hit in 10" circle @ 40 yards
2 ¾" Winchester Supreme Turkey loads #6's (PG choke) = 156 hits in 10" circle @ 40 yards

i'm not sure if they were the 1 5/8 oz. or 1 ½" oz. loads...

For a 2 3/4 inch shell those are some rocking patterns.  Those 6 numbers are the way to go.  156 in a 10" with lead 2 3/4 says puregold makes one heck of a choke.

YEAH,I was sittin here laughing about this one, wait'in on someone to reply about his dissatisfaction of the PG with 2.75 lead.Friend, allot of folks don't get those #'s with 2 or 2.25oz's of lead!NICE!!

VAHUNTER
