I see so many cost style box makers that overhang the screw end, but fall short of the box on the handle end. Is there a reason for this? Helps get more sound out of the box? Because they saw others doing it? Seems symmetrically incorrect to my cabinet makers eye. Thanks for any replies.

Interestingly............the paddle on the call we discussed is a bit longer than recent, previous ones from the same maker. 

FWIW....... BOTH calls are screamers.  But the newer, longer paddle runs better in my large-ish hands.
