I only shoot Jakes two at a time, out of a blind, over deke's and with a rifle.  Unless of course I'm able to get close enough to blow them off the limb before flydown.

...in August!
And over corn on property bought by the N"WTF"!

I knew that was comin'!    :D ;D

I suppose all you jake killers wouldn't be opposed to whacking a few baldies either  ::) .

Scout24

Outlaw,           I'd be much more troubled with them blasting turkeys to bits with rifles in your state than shooting a jake.

Doug-Va

I called in 25 jakes this spring and didn't shoot any but ended up not killing nothing for the first time in 17 years! And thinking about the reason i love this sport is to hear the gobble and watch them strut really the length of the beard shouldn't ruin the hunt. Not saying shoot everyone you see but honostly i believe i would rather kill a jake that came in gobbling and struttin than a long beard that came in silent! Plus all of them taste good on the grill.

Jakes are like scotch. They are not worth a darn until they age.

OldMarine

You are a thousand percent  correct. If you kill all the jakes on your lease this year and have a bad hatch ,then you won't  have anything to hunt next year. .Jakes are by nature your next years  gobbler. I haven't shot a jake in more than 25 years and will never kill another bitty, why ? Because that's your next years gobbler.I won't shoot one on public land either.Wait for a bitty to grow into a gobbler before you kill him!

lacountryboy

Shooting a jake in the spring is not the same as shooting a fawn, it's the same as shooting a 1 1/2 year old spike or 4 point.  I'm wondering how many would shoot a yearling buck but not a jake?
William

I shot a Jake two years ago on the last day of the season, he tasted good when we cooked him for some reason nobody could tell the difference.
I have thought about shooting a Bald Eagle but I have seen what they eat and I am sure they taste like fish and week old dead deer.

If you follow the game laws of your state why the controversy, If you think shooting Jakes should be illeagle the write your state legislators and have them change the law.
