I just got a new trumpet in the mail.  Check out this beauty from Mr. Mark Prudhomme. I got it from a friend and he wasn't sure what kind of wood it is. Do any of y'all have a guess?

Ironwood, but you could reach out to Mark and ask

Nice looking call

the grain up around the ferrules and then down towards the bell for several inches looks like osage,
then the grain swirls like the wood had a twist in it

Fl strutter

Definitely ironwood. Awesome call.

Thanks guys I'm pretty familiar with a lot of woods but wasn't quite sure. I would reach out to Mark but I'm not sure how to contact him.

Yes I do have a good friend!

I did a quick search for some other ironwood trumpets here and the grain does look a little different. Does Padouk turn this medium color brown?  I know it starts out more red I think but most woods darken after a while.

There are many different shades of Padauk, There are shades of Bloodwood that look similar to this call as well. But, I am just throwing wild guesses out there.

Well it looks like it is most likely Mopani.  I think I will find out for sure when Mark gets back from Nashville. I'm am grateful to have this call and will be toting it to the woods here as soon as possible.

It does look like Mopani. Mopani is an amazing trumpet wood, I am waiting on an order of Mopani to build some trumpets, I will post them here.
