Every year as season gets near I start reminiscing about specific hunts and special birds.
This bird while not the highest scoring bird has to be among the most special. There is no telling how old he was. The day I got him I worked him for hours. Just when I had nearly given up he succumbed to my pitiful imitation of a hen. He was battle scarred from years of fighting and had even lost his spur caps. The cores still measured 1 3/8". His head was the size of a softball. I called him the dinosaur.

Man, what a bird. You have to be proud of that one.

Somehow I suspect that hen imitation was not so pitiful.   :D
Beautiful gobbler.  Those are the kind you wish you had some way of really determining how old they were.

Cool bird. My buddy and I were hunting a place in TX several years ago that allowed hunting by essentially paying a trespass fee. He shot a similar looking gnarly old gobbler. Found a #2 shot from who knows when in one leg and a #4 in the other leg. This was the opening weekend. Old, old and wary bird with reason!

That's an old warrior, congrats....
