Mine started a little frustrating. First week in MD just couldn't get 'in the game' with a gobbling bird. Heard them but didn't really work one till the first Saturday. Finally called a bird in and was waiting on him to close that last 10 yards when a bird slipped in right behind me and putted. Next week went to WV, 2 days, 2 birds. Back to MD and plagued with birds that just wouldn't finish. Then had a hunt in a thick area and had a bird close but too much brush. Biggest downer of the season was a draw hunt on a NWR, had 1100 acres to myself for the morning. Got on a bird at 1115 (end at noon), ended up slowly working him in and at about 5 min to 12 I finally saw him coming through some ferns at 40 yards. He stretched up and I admit I rushed the shot, hit him low and broke a leg. He went out flapping and I took off after him. Very thick woods, jumped him twice. The second time he got a little airborn about 60 yds from me and sailed out into a big deep swamp. That was a huge blow since that was totally my fault. Had him dead to rights and just didn't bear down on him. First bird I ever lost. So started frustrating, had some success and ended terribly.
