Just curious for all of you 10ga. enthusiast, what is it that is compelling to use one over a 12 ga.?
 Is it a yardage thing or amount of shot that gives a benefit? And how much more kinetic energy can you acheive?

With today's loads and chokes, I doubt there's a whole lot of difference, except for payload amount. A few years ago, before turkey chokes and HTL, it was a different story and the 10 gauge was significantly better.

Probably the main reason I use a 10 gauge is mine is an autoloader and the felt recoil is much less than my 870 SM.

The reality is that people have kept on improving and refining the 12 gauge till it has reached the level of the 10gauge

 In my opinion the 10 has always been the 10 , there has been some improvements in the area of handloads and aftermarket chokes that lend the 10 gauge a slight edge over the very modernized 12 gauge {most likely only if you use those handloads and chokes}

The 10 gauge is the same gun I have used for 16 years that lays down a solid kill -- It does pack a wallop

I have 2 and use them because they are just plain cool and some guys arent man enough to hunt with them,they whine 'too heavy,too much recoil,blah blah blah"-wussies!

if they sold an 8 gauge I'd have it.

Honestly, with handloads, Nitros, ect.   You have a advanage. I have remington 1187s and 870 supermags. And my Browning gold 10 guage (auto) will put far more pellets on the target than my 12 guage. But if shooting lead, their is very little difference if any at all. Just my 2 cents.

Nitro Ammo is made with all lead, lead and Hevi-Shot combination, and all Hevi-Shot. Pick your poison.

Interesting, I doubt i can convince the wife i need a ten gauge for turkeys, i already convinced her I needed a Mossberg 500 then  T/C encore in 12ga turkey. And she witnessed that I can kill them just as dead with those. I think she's on to me Shocked

 Thanks for the info

I have a browning b.p.s 26in duck blind with a Primo's Jelly head choke, bought the gun for geese was tired of the inferiority of the 3 1/2 in twelve. First time out with the gun I had a turkey at 45 yards it would not come any closer it was decoy shy. I tried getting it closer without any luck. so I waited for the best possible shot and I took it. The turkey dropped like a sack of potato's. I have shot 14 turkey's with this gun and have not missed to date (Noak on wood). The ten is the best "'Big Medicine" for turkey.
That's why I shoot the "Mighty Ten"
