Just got back from MO and thinking about making a trip to Kansas..

Was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of some decent public land to hunt.. Have several maps printed off showing the public land but don't really know where to star..

It all gets pounded really hard. We just dont have much public here. Hell, most of the public around me is under water as we speak. I'd start putting in for the Marais des Cygnes NWR hunt. They limit access. You put in for access tags. First year you wont get drawn. Second year is a fair shot and third year was usually a sure thing. Its tougher to get drawn, but probably the highest quality public land hunt you will get in KS. If you have questions shoot me a pm.

From what I have heard, the best tactic out there is to ride the roads and try to spot them.  If you spot some, start asking around and try to get permission.  I know 2 guys that use this tactic out there and they have tagged out during the second week for 2 years.

It is still legal to whoop your wife once a year in Arkansas, does that make it OK. (In reference to shooting a turkey with a rifle.) Right On

i live near both Clinton & Perry Public Hunting Areas and i've seen several birds still alive on public land.  there's no way you could possible hunt all of the public ground within a 5 day week.  good luck & message me with any questions...

here's my post from March:
Ok.  I'm not going to be hunting at Perry this year.  So, I figured it's time to share the wealth, info...  There is a ton of land to hunt with a dense turkey (Eastern) population!  The Perry Wildlife Area & Clinton Wildlife Area are only about 20-30 miles away depending on your specific location.  We have had 100% double harvest success each year.  Although, you will have to do the research like I did the past few years.  There's a lot of resources out there, i.e., map, aerial photos, etc.; however, we had the best luck by roosting birds at night.  Cabin & Tags are inexpensive to boot...  Good Luck & Enjoy!!!
