TJ fiddle box
« on: August 13, 2020, 08:58:20 PM »
I recently got a couple of fiddle boxes from TJ and both are smokers. One was a walnut/cedar combo that is just plain nasty and then this beauty showed up today. Hard to believe a call that looks this good can sound so turkey. The body is mineral stained Poplar, but without much color variation. The lid and base are Granadillo with incredible figure. TJ is making some great calls.

Fine looking call, he is on my list of call makers I would like to get a call from.

I didn't hunt as much as I usually do based on states having COVID restrictions on out of state hunters. I chase gobblers from early to mid March deep into May. I haven't bought much in the way of calls for a good number of years, but since I have had more time to spend looking at calls, camo, etc.--I have been stocking up. I recently got a bloodwood/butternut and mineral poplar/padauk from TJ. Both calls really sound great and look great. TJ is a really nice young man and is a pleasure to work with. Now when my Brad Roberts slate and Clay Townsend glass arrive, I'm really gonna be stoked. None of these more expensive calls are really necessary to get the job done. I killed many, many gobblers with a Lynch box and slate, but custom calls do run much easier and sound better to both the caller and I think the gobblers. I can't wait to get after the birds full force again. You absolutely will be pleased with a box from TJ Johnson.
