Stevens 301 Single Shot Turkey Shotgun-12 gauge
« on: April 21, 2020, 06:02:53 PM »
I seen I can get this gun in obsession camo. I am going to order it online tonight or tomorrow as I have been toying with the idea of a new 12 gauge single shot. The price is decent and I want it.How many of you are shooting this in 12 gauge?

I have been eyeing this gun up since they were released a few years back,I was interested in a 20 but I have lots of 20's including 2 single shots. This gun is going to be my last turkey gun for awhile.I like that it takes win choke threads as I already have a handful of chokes as well,I have 3" fed tss #7's and I am waiting on kent tk7 3" 7"s.I may even hold off on selling my vortex venom and use it on this gun.

I can get t for $269.99 Canadian plus tax.I find that very reasonable considering I paid 5 times that much for my tc 12 ga and then twice as much for the 20 gauge barrel. It will probably be a week before I get it but It will make a great early season rain day project in the next 10 days.

It was a little chilly -13 with the windchill at 5 am this morning and the birds were singing up a storm.I can't wait until Saturday morning.I am going to do some more online shopping today for a sling for this gun.I slept on the idea and I am going to use a little reflex/red dot on this gun,I just am not sure if it will be my vortex or a weaver I recently got as well.

I have these chokes already,
-.675 undertaker hd
-.660 trulock
-..640 Carlson Tss Fed

I have owned most chokes or do have most but I have never played with a Pure Gold, I am thinking of ordering one to try out,I have a handful of 12 gauges with the win choke if It does not shoot from this gun.I was between it and an Indian creek but seeing as I never tried a Pure Gold.A good family friend won a still paper shooting contest years ago with a cheap old $100 Mossberg he bought used and a Pure gold choke,so He has always talked them up.

I have been looking at trying one for awhile so I thought it would be a great time to try it,I also am going to go ahead and mount one of my Bushnell trophy xlt 1.75-4x32 with circle plex in Realtree ap camo on this gun instead of the red dot.

I just got in from a morning hunt, checked my emails and this gun shipped yesterday and is expected May 4th. I ended up cancelling that sling from amazon as it hadn't shipped and I found a local guy that builds custom leather slings so I have him working on two for me,one for this gun and one for another I have on the way.

I got this gun setup late last week,it shot excellent patterns right out of box with bead, however the bead shoots 4" to the right with stock choke.I patterned Federal tss 3"-7's,Kent tk7 3" 7's and remington nitro 2 3/4" 5's.This gun is awesome,I did put a bushnell trs 25 on it and used a 2 3/4" nitro 5 to take a 19.5 lbs, 9" beard with 1" spurs the first morning I hunted with the gun.I plan to mess around after the season with some chokes and see if I can get it to shoot the bead poa, and If not I will keep the trs on it. I am very impressed with this gun.It was worth the cash.

 :morning:
Single shots and recoil are synonymous! I always use a Lead Sled when patterning, but in the
moment of truth...what recoil?!?! :camohat:

I dont find this gun to kick bad, I wanted to try out a .640 tss choke from this setup.I fired once at 40 yards and I am super happy,It hit to the left.I adjusted a few clicks and It's dead on.

Long beard #6's-3"  .640 tss Carlson choke and a Bushnell trs 25 red dot. This gun is awesome.
