Got it done with the bow
« on: April 19, 2020, 05:51:05 PM »
Not usually much of a big story teller but thought I’d share this hunt because of the way it played out.
I have not been able to hunt much this year but I had some time and thought I’d head down for a morning hunt.  Didn’t hear any gobbling at or before daylight but i did hear some hens behind me. Not long i hear a gobble in the field straight in front of me but i can’t see him. There is a rise in the field so I can’t see part of the field. I start calling a little and he’s answering , not long I can tell he’s coming. Finally he pops over the rise gobbles and struts and next thing I kno walks off.... I couldn’t believe it. Several minutes go by, he gobbles again, I call he answers. Here comes 3 redheads over the rise, I text Calloway and says, “he’s bringing his buddies” lol.... Turns out to be a gobbler and 2 jakes, here they come 100 yards on the rope. All of sudden they throw their heads up and start angling to my right. I look and 3 hens have come out down the field. I thought just my luck. There they go right to the hens and immediately that gobbler turns and marches straight to my decoy, jumped on him and beat the crap out of it until the stake bent. I was already at fulldraw so when the gobbler got still I smashed a rage right thru him. Flopped about 10 feet and that was it. One heck of a roller coaster ride, hunts such as this is why we keep going back. Hope y’all enjoy the story.

Amazing work, congratulations!

Sounds like you had a gobbler decoy out and the alpha took exception to it being between him and his hens, is that right?
