Don't have this combo,,who makes a good one??
Also has anybody tried an all walnut fiddle box

AppalachianHollers

This is a combo I have to hear in the flesh—recordings seem to fail because of the high pitch.

I say this not from experience, but only because I can't really hear the nuances of such calls on videos.

The best all walnut short box that I've ever played is from Lonnie Mabry and #2 is from Albert Paul, and I still own both. With that said, I've killed a bunch of gobblers with an all walnut half moon.

I'll second the Albert Paul recommendation. Walnut's his wood.

For you to find a good all walnut call , you first have to find a call builder that has some good seasoned 20 year old walnut in my opinion.  The older the growth of the wood the between the call will sound .. If you can find older Albert Paul, Marlin or someone else look in that direction..  Darrin Dawkins

I have a Dawkins, have a Watkins, and had an Albert Paul. All are very good calls and you couldn't go wrong with any of them.

After this seasons results, one of my all time favorite short boxes is TJ Johnson's all walnut.  One NH and two VT longbeards were struck, worked, and finished only using this call. The one I have has great natural pitch and tone with some good rasp. I couldn't be happier with it.
