Took my daughter out for the youth opener on Saturday here in NC and all we seen was a large number of Jake's. I told her she could take anyone that she wanted as they were all legal and she made it clear to me that she wanted to wait for a gobbler.
I was pretty impressed that she had the determination and discipline to hold off.
Fast forward to this morning (tried to get her to go yesterday morning but she was exhausted and passed) and we heard a bunch of gobbling behind our blind. They flew out and to the right of us and followed hens across the field and about 250 yards away. We watched them until 7:15am and then had another one gobble very close behind us. I looked over to my right and he came out from the wood line. As soon as he saw our avian Jake he lowered his head and marched straight towards him. Sophia was ready and wasted little time and at 7:38am her 20gauge went off and this guy dropped.
Her bird had 9 5/8in beard, 1 1/8in spurs and weighed 20.38lbs
