I just got a killer purple slate from Travis Wyatt of Sweetbriar Custom Calls. Great guy who makes an excellent call.

Bearcat1997

I have a Woodhaven Cherry Classic Slate. It's a good call and the toms loved it last year. However, I feel like calls of the same quality or better can be had for cheaper.

I've got 3 of Mike Yingling's slates. Gray, green and purple. Mike has treated me very fair over the years. That might be why most everything I carry is his. Have at least a dozen of his pots. Al (Enticer Game Calls) makes some good wet weather pots. When things are looking damp outside, I've got a glass and an aluminum from him that I use. Never tried his slate. Have tried some from several other well known makers but got rid of all but the Yingling's. Just sounded better to me. But, what I like may not be what others like. You know, Chevy/Ford thing.

Yep, Paul Hicks Jr.(A.K.A Daddy Rat here on OG), Strut Zone Game calls, makes a GREAT gray slate call. His green slate is REALLY good also, as are a lot of his other calls.
Somebody mentioned Woodhaven. The Cherry Classic slate is a very good call and readily available. I do agree that you can get just as good or a better call for less, but there is a good chance you will have some kind of wait to get it...especially this time of year.

Sneed's make some great sounding slate calls.

Just wanted to give everyone an update. So I contacted Mr. Yingling and I bought 2 slates from him. He was awesome to work with. Got the 2 slates super quick.

The best part about it though is the fact that they sound AWESOME! I can wait to run them in the woods.

Congratulations, if his slate sounds anywhere near as good as his copper you got some great calls.
