Conditioning anodized aluminum

I have a Jimmy Schaffer anodized aluminum pot call. How are you guys conditioning these? I read so many conflicting reports that it's hard to tell what's what.

Terry is it bead blasted or slick anodized? If it’s bead blasted an alcohol wipe is all that’s required. If it’s slick I use light sandpaper to score surface most times though my Dawkin runs just like it is. Some fellows chalk those as well

I believe it's slick. Same set up as his Atomic-13 just different wood for the pot

The atomic 13 uses bead blasted. Jimmy recommends alcohol. I’ve never seen any slick. I don’t know of any he made. Post a pic of surface or text me a pic.
Rzrbak I think ran or has that call, he may know as well. Jimmy is easy to talk to as well. Could always ask him. I don’t know if he sends alcohol or not cause I just drive over, only ten mins away

I had an Atomic 13 and just used an alcohol pad to wipe it down. That is the way I conditioned every anodized aluminum call I've owned.

Older Atomic 13s are slick anodized aluminum but he switched all his aluminums several years ago to bead blasted.
Personally I prefer slick anodized, I think bead blasted is more user friendly, but totally different tone.

With my slick aluminum, I start with a scotch bright pad in a small area this will help the grip without taking all the coating off. I usually end up using sandpaper most of the time. Alcohol may help on the bead blasted for a little while but I have had them that I scuffed up also.

could never figure this stuff out, I can turn a glass, slate or aluminum pot to sound great w/o much trouble, but the anodized stuff nope. I have an old HS strut call alumi witch or something that sounds great & never touched the call to condition, go figure. Mike

I’ve never had to do anything to anodized other than use a wipe on it as others have said. Having said that, I had a Halloran anodized that sounded like crap. Took the coating off and it was much better.
