Anybody played with an old tightly choked double barrel to see what it will do with an 1 1/4oz load of 7 1/2s?

I got to 33 yards for head/neck killing patterns out of an old black powder SXS that is choked light modified with reloads of 1 3/8 oz of #6 magnum shot, I dropped the powder charge and added a little extra shot trying to tighten up the center core pattern.

I tried #7.5 chilled shot but this gun patterned the #6 magnum shot better

I would think you should get to 40yds with a full or extra full choked gun with out too much trouble.
Some of the old guns were choked pretty tight.

I can get a nice pattern out of my I modxfull lefevre. Win supreme 2 3/4 5s perform very well.

Longshanks

Rem 870/ Kicks .655   Federal 3" 7.5's. Inside 35yds it's about as good as it gets. Dead Turkeys.

I use RST Pigeon loads which are 1 1/4 oz number 6's out of my old Fox which was customized.  They pattern very well to 35 yards and I have rolled a few gobblers with it.

^^ very nice old fox, and sharp looking stock

do you know the choke constriction, and did you pattern 4's or 5's out of it?

Pigeon loads from RST are lower pressure and only come in size 6.  Believe my Fox is .035 (full) and .025 (mod).  I've killed 1 Jake and 2 Gobblers with it.  Its what I carry after I knock one down with my 20 gauge.   All 3 of my birds were killed at circa 20 yards and went right down.
