Central PA Gobbling 2020
« on: March 11, 2020, 11:20:14 AM »
A little late posting this, as I've been very busy.

03/09/20
47 Degrees, some gusts of wind, clear skies, generally good hearing.
6:30 - Let's get this show on the road! Went out with my usual cup of coffee to the back patio for a listen.
6:35 - With the Full Moon looked pretty light out.
6:45 - Moon set just as it was breaking first light. No birds this morning. Nice morning, but no activity.
7:10 - 4 deer walked the property line. Couldn't tell what they were. Just 2 weeks ago, a 6 point and 2 smaller bucks still had antlers.
7:30 - Still no birds. I've seen almost no turkeys over the winter. Last week I saw 5 in a field near me, but couldn't see what they were.
7:40 - Went back in.

Went out again this morning before daylight (back deck).
Not a turkey sound.

I know. I just like to see how early they start.

35 degrees according to the truck, snow flurries at the house when I left at 4:30. Probably 5-10 mph wind. First and only bird I heard in what is normally a target rich environment started cranking right at 6. He's probably gobbled 50x now.

Was gonna hit another spot but the grouse were drumming up a storm and I couldn't stop listening to him sing. PSU is paying us to not work I have all week to check out spots.

Awesome morning

Had several birds over on the mountain fire up at daybreak.
Lasted about 20 min., then all quiet.
Seems to have a slow start in my area.
Also, population is down according to sightings in my travels.
Haven't been out to the property I hunt yet. Currently having back and hip issues.
