Cutting and threading 410 barrel pattern change questions
« on: March 05, 2020, 11:15:44 AM »
I am considering buying a Tristar semiauto 410, but I would want to cut the barrel to 21-22” from the factory 24-26” barrel.

Has anyone done this with a 410, and if so did you see much pattern change?

I have a PA459 20ga with 18.5” barrel that gets just as good of patterns as the SA459 with 22” barrel so wondering if same is true of the 410’s.

So we just got a Mossberg Super Mini Bantam 410, came with 18.5" fixed Mod barrel. I didn't shoot it. Sent it off to SumToy and had it threaded and .380 choke.

I got the Apex Ninja. max distance is 35 yards. No where near the patterns I've seen from Apex in a 10" circle. I'm going to shoot it today along with the Federal TSS.

I will post a thread and show real results. I dry clean the barrel in between shots.

SumToy barrel work is amazing.

I just don't see , cutting the barrel off 2 inches will help either way. But again it's just up to you.

I wouldn’t expect it to improve anything, but I did want to make sure pattern numbers wouldn’t plummet.  Really just getting rid of 3” of length if I bought a 24”.  5” with the 26” barrel.

I would just run the factory 24". I didn't have that option with the 510 Mossberg.
