870 youth 20
« on: February 23, 2020, 04:43:03 PM »
Got lucky and found a gem 870 express magnum youth 20 with 21 inch barrel,in real tree hardwoods. Put FF3 on ,limb saver recoil pad and picked up the carlsons .555 tss choke. Also Picked up 5 boxes of fed 3in #9s which I plan on shooting out of it. Going to get a IC .555 and carlsons .568 to test out also

My questions is....is polishing the barrel on this 20 going to help that much?? I know it’s made a world of difference in most of my 12s. But this is my first 20 build. Picked it up for my wife and daughter but I have a feeling I’ll be taking it out often also.

Let’s hear from some of you 870 20 experts out there

Thanks In advance for the feedback

Small AirTech slip on. Only because I tried a few screw on models and they didn’t fit correctly. Called LimbSaver and was told my only option was a slip on

yes sir give it a good scrubbing / deep cleaning make sure you get all the cleaning solvent and oil out of the barrel with denatured alcohol ,  and see what it will do.    and BTW let us know how that carlson tss .555 choke does i'm very interested in that choke.

If it don't shoot up to your expectations then try polishing it.   I have 1 870 20ga that shot way better after polishing it, and one that shoots great and hasn't been polished.

Got 282 in the 10 at 40 with the IC .555
And 276 in the 10 with the Carlsons .555.

Both great hunting patterns within the 10/20 rings

But I decided to polish the barrel and she what she does.

I’ll post up once I get a chance with some warmer weather

Forgot the carlsons today but after seeing what the IC .555 did today I won’t be messing around. Think I found the ticket. Happy with these results. 339 and pretty even

I had great results with a more open choke .570.. I am also a believer in polishing, better patterns and easier to clean. My 26” barrel did better than my 21”. Shoot Remington 870 20ga, Carlson choke. Nitro 7s and TSS #9. Deadly
