Gobbler Scat? Help me identify!

New to hunting and despite the recent snow, went to go check out an area that looked "turkeyish". Came across this scat that that fit the "J" description while hiking up to a ridge.  It was on a snow covered northern slope 50 vertical feet and about 150 yards from a ridge at around 9000 ft. I did not see any Turkey tracks in the snow either.  Thanks for your help in identifying.

Unfortunately I did not take a very good picture of the tree (see attached) and could not identify it but it was a mature tree with horizontal branches that could support a turkey.

If the scat was under tree? Were there any feathers on ground as well? Yes roost tree, snow may have covered any signs of tracks

Agree, dusky grouse scat would be a good bet given the altitude and your location in CO.

Funny you should post this, I just saw Dusky Grouse as a possibility and came back to ask about this.  Can you tell me what differences I would see in color/shape/composition that would help me identify turkey scat when/if I come across it? They look very similar.  Thanks!

Overall shape is similar.  I expect turkey scat to be whiter in general.  Size is the real giveaway.  Turkey scat is typically 2 1/2 to 3 inches.  Dusky Grouse around half that.

The turkey droppings I have found were whiter and looked very similar in size and shape to goose droppings that are such a pain on the greens when playing golf.

As an addendum. Any turkey scat I've ever seen has some white in it, which indicates protein, e.g. acorns. The more protein, the more white. Thus I'd be very suspicious of any scat found with NO white as  being turkey. Of course the criteria of size and shape have to be met as well.

Only one way to tell for sure taste it if its bitter like acorns its from turkeys.LOL no really looks to small and wrong color.
