One of my best methods when hunting is tough, or hunting new properties and not hearing gobblers is to hunt on a tree line, kinda like channels them most times. My favorite tree line to look for is on a large fresh clearcut.

I do this also, I start in the morning by doing some run and gun. Then about 10:00 I will setup inside a tree line and hunt over a field or clear cut. Honestly I have had more luck killing birds between 10:00 and 1:00 then I have first thing in the morning.
