Red slate is gradually replacing my grey in my vest. Down here in the south , humidity is tough on grey. Red and green does not seem affected by it as much. Some talking about how its a pain to condition so often. My experience is different. Red , green and ceramic seem to need conditioning a whole lot less than my other surfaces.

Agreed the red slate calls I own and have built almost don’t even require scuffing with a pad in my experience

Red Slate is one of my favorites! I make a lot of red Slate calls. It’s harder, making it louder than gray slate. It’s got a raspy tone to it as well. I find red can handle a little more moisture before it’s useless, but it’s still Slate. I like it over glass or slate.
