Mossberg Maverick 88
« on: December 28, 2019, 07:22:57 PM »
I'm interested in the Maverick 88 shotgun. Does anybody have any experience with this gun? Looking at a youth model in the 20 gauge.

My suggestion , step up and buy the youth model 870 - 20 gauge , it's a lot easier to modified the Remington .. you will fine lot more selection of stocks , chokes etc ...

I agree w this but would personally consider a regular mossberg youth as well.
I’m no maverick fan. Really cheaply made

Thanks for the responses. I left out some information on this. I want to hunt with this gun and then in six to seven years give it to my grandson. I have heard that recently the 870 Express's have not been up to Remington quality since the changes with Remington corporate changes and such. Actually looking more towards the Mossberg 500 bantam. I can get a Mossberg Maverick 88 20 gauge youth for $220 which I think is a pretty decent price.

I've got 2 870s and a mossberg 500. Like both but the remington is just a better quality gun to me. I'd go for the 870

I have the mossberg maverick 20ga youth myself. It's the same as the mossberg 500 except where the safety is located.  Everything made to interchange with the 500 will interchange with the maverick 88. I really like mine it's a solid little gun.

Actually it’s not the same.

It will be fine. Today’s Remington is not better or worse. If you want a little higher quality get a Nova or BPS. I have hunted with a 500 and there is not much difference in the two. For a gun to go kill and beat up without concern you will be just fine.
