SA-459 20 gauge advice?
« on: December 03, 2019, 05:20:32 PM »
I just ordered a 20 gauge Weatherby sa-459, to use this Spring, so have a lot of time to get it ready.

Looking to shoot Federals TSS #7 or #9, from what I've read, # 9's seem like the way to go?

And I see where many use the Carlson's Ext Tube .575 for 7's, but wasn't sure it the same tube would be good for the 9's if I go with them? Thanks

9's for sure.  I'd holler at William at Sumtoy or look at Indian Creek.

Carlson's Ext Tube .575 for all #7 and #9 turkey loads. Not the absolute tightest.. but best real world hunting pattern.

Thanks for the replies, If I should go with a Carlson's does anyone know the difference between two different P/N s's for the EXt. .575?

Just looking I noticed P/N 10300 labeled WIN/TKY.575 & also P/N 01088 labeled T/C TKY .575

I think one may be ported, other non-ported. Go with non ported..

Both are non ported, so I looked on Carlson's choke tube page. And they have the 01088 listed under Tru-Choke 20ga. and the 10300 listed under Winchester/Mossberg500/Browning Invector/ Win Choke 20ga.

it could be one is a flush mount, the other is extended?  I know they make a flush mount .575 or .585... I tested a few.

I tried a Carlson 575 in mine and it wasn’t tight enough for me.  I ended up going with a IC 562.  Works extremely well.  That shotgun choke combination has downed several birds for me the last three years.  i shoot 9 shot handloads.

Is that .562 a special order? All I ever see listed on sites is .555?

Just curious if anyone has tried the Carlson's .565 with #9's?

Looks like .575 is the popular choice with Carlson's, although with Sumtoy or IC it's .562, so was just curious if anyone has tried the Carlson's .565?

I don’t know if it’s special order or  not.  I’ve bought several IC chokes over the years and have always called them directly and ordered.
