Price has gone down for 12's over the last year or so. $350-500 is the norm for a nice one. Plenty of them on Gun Broker for sale. The 20ga is different story, if you can ever find one it will likely be over 1K.
As for choke=  I actually prefer the factory x full turkey choke.  As for the best load... same as any turkey gun...  TSS #9

I shoot a Trulock .665 in my 1300 with Hevi-13 7's and get 156 hits a 10" circle at 40 yds.

My LGS had one, a 12GA on the consignment rack, asking price was $600, NIB, lasted two days. Nice gun, just didn't fit me worth a darn.

I got a 1988 NWTF for $350 back in 2013. Gun was in perfect shape and I’ve been using it ever since. I’ve had good luck with a Carlson.660 and a pure gold 670. My favorite load was with a pure gold tempest .670 that was made for the old federal flight control wad. I used a 2oz #5 shot, it was an great pattern. Nice and even, not overly tight but could take a turkey at 50yds. Long beards were also great out of the ported pure gold.670 but I started having issues with the last box I tried a couple days ago. Had what looked like a slug hole in the paper and about half the hits in 10” that a got last year. I’ll probably be using double x #5 this year and a few 1 7/8 oz long beards I have from last year that are still doing well.

I've got the original 1300NWTF laminated stock from the 80s, the black shadow from the 90s and the last run NWTF short turkey. All in 12ga, all have killed a bunch of turkeys and all kick like a mule. Neener neener I guess.
