Anyone care to share some tips on removing a name off a box call?

Sandpaper and then reapply the finish: although I can't imagine why someone would do so unless its stolen or purchased from an estate sale and the deceased made the call.  >:(
Everyone wants to be successful - some just need help.

I think he's looking to remove a name of a previous owner of the call, not the call maker. I could be wrong, but this is often discussed.

Some will send the call back to the call maker to remove the personalization and refinish. It's debated whether or not it's an acceptable practice, being as its sort of a slap to the maker from the previous owner, but also a nod by the new owner in that they're taking pride in their new acquisition.

It is about removing a name from the previous owner. Don't hurt anything but!!

Shoot it off with a 357, works on almost anything.

It's a touchy subject , most say it doesn't affect the value ...

I would contact the maker and see what they would charge to remove the previous owners name.
If anyone other than the original maker removes it the call is adulterated.

X2 good point and i would feel the same way adulterated call...  if i did it myself ...

It is a good point but if the maker is not making calls anymore, got a list 10 miles long or other reasons. The callmaker may or may not remove it. Like hookedonhooks stated it could be a slap in the face to some of the call makers. Just thought I would get some opinions.

If he wouldn't or couldn't remove it then I would have to live with it or find one that wasn't personalized and sell the one that was.
I think I have maybe one call out of the hundreds of calls i have with someone else's name on it and when I bought it I didn't know it because the pictures showed everything, but that part of the call. It's a limited edition Watkins so I'll just keep it. I'm sure Marlin would probably remove it if I ever decide on it.
I hate it even when a callmaker puts my name on a call they make for me even when I've only ever gotten rid of one call in over a decade.

That's probably what I'll do, just live with it. Appreciate the feedback!!

Why not have the calllmaker simply add your name with the date? Leaving the first owner's name documents the call's lineage. Turns out the call was made for the both of you, now you're in possession of it.  :z-twocents:

If you go through the trouble of contacting and sending it to the maker why wouldn't you just have it removed and no name added?? Imo everyone will buy a call with no name on it on the s3cond hand market. Not everyone will buy one with one or if some do they are in this predicament.

They use an indelible marker. Just get a fine tipped Sharpie and write on some hard wood and see how hard it is to sand it off, if its doable email or call the maker and see what type of finish they use.
