Apex 9's, Where'd They All Go?

Spring Creek Calls

Shot a single test pattern from my 1300 with a Sumtoy .562 and Apex 9'S. Really liked the 10 inch numbers but where did the rest of the  300+ pellets go? The 2' square paper only shows about 80 holes outside the 10" circle. Over choked? 7's instead of 9's? Not filling the shot cup?

Looks like it could be overchoked. Your 10" looks really stringy and there isn't much uniformity outside of the 10". To be fair a .555-.562 choke in most guns is going to get you either A. A hot core or B. A blown pattern. That's not always the case but in your situation my money is on it being overchoked. If that gun liked the .562 you'd be at 290+ in the 10" all day long.

Hard to imagine 230 pellets flew somewhere off a 24"×24"  piece of paper but I guess anything is possible. I personally question the size of shot.  There should be 588 #9 shot in the 1-5/8 Oz load.

I hand load and have a buddy that does too. He just shot a well known load out of 870 20g to try for giggles yesterday. 2 3/4" 1 5/8oz load. His current 2 3/4" 1 7/16 oz load with 9s out of his 870 does 270/190 on average out of a .562 Sumtoy. The new load went 173/82. Half the load was nowhere to be found. Puts in a .585 Trulock and the same load and same gun goes 270/250...it's very possible. I'd give a more open choke a chance with it and just what happens.

A load of 7's seems to be the most likely culprit.

Not yet but will be shooting again either Wednesday or Saturday. My gut feeling is this shell was loaded with something larger than #9's.

Pretty sure this one shell was loaded with 7's instead of 9's. Here's another pattern of the same gun, choke and Apex 9's.

Sure looks like it 8.5 shot maybe. 500 shot in that apex load from their site.
7.5 shot would have 358 in that load. 7 shot around 300?
