Affinity 20 TSS info needed
« on: June 01, 2019, 02:01:21 PM »
I’m swapping to a Affinity 20 gauge for next season which is only 288 days away. I’m looking for info on the Affinity 20 gauge and what you’re chokes using? What do your patterns look like at 20 & 40 yards?
While I intend to hand load in the future the first year with a 20 I may go store bought, so info on federal, apex, or any store bought tss is appreciated too. Are you having any cycling issues and if so what are they? I appreciate any and all the help I can get.
Always wondering wether or not to give a cluck

I am using a Sumtoy 570 on a 24" barrel.  At 20, with Apex 9s I get basically a volleyball sized pattern.  At 40 yds I have had anywhere between 250-300 in a 10" circle.  I haven't had any cycling problems with Apex or Longbeard XR shells.

i have the affinity 3 20 gauge. Be aware it will not cycle the federal loads, they are a shade too long. it will eject the one in the chamber but the second shot gets hung up and wont feed. i have had no such issues with apex or longbeards.

I have the Affinity 3 in a 20 shooting 1 5/8oz.TSS handloads through a Carlson 575 non ported choke, I never counted the numbers but it throws one heck of a pattern.  PineyRooster, I back up my handloads with a Federal TSS and have never had one cycle poorly.

I’m using a Rob Roberts 570 in mine. Don’t have any pics of patterns but it’s killed a few birds. I did have cycling issues with federal TSS but it’s a easy fix. My opinion great gun at close to half price of a benelli..

I use the Indian Creek .562 and Apex 1 5/8 oz. #9 TSS  combination in my Franchi Affinity 20 gauge.   335 in the 10" circle @ 40 yards.

HS Strut Undertaker choke is the best hunting pattern in mine. About 290-300 in the ten with a good even pattern. The .575 Carlson is too tight and I have a trulok .585 that is around 250 in the ten if you wanted a little more open pattern.

These patterns are what I saw with my Affinity/Sumtoy .570/Apex 9s yesterday size-wise, but my 40 yard pattern was 314 in the 10, with a really dirty barrel after shooting 3 boxes of cheap loads through it last weekend. Pattern was very uniform at that distance but still tight- I’m considering adding another more open choke or figuring out another shell for places where I can’t shoot past 25-30 yards if needed after I give this a shot this seasob
