Remington model 870 20 gauge.
« on: May 13, 2019, 09:44:58 AM »
I have an 870 twenty gauge that is a killing machine on Turkeys. My problem is that I shoot heavily shot blend 5/6/7.  When I eject the hull it gets stuck and won’t come out. Missed a turkey in Kansas last week because of it. Anybody else having this problem? I guess it has an extra half inch of shell when it’s shot. Don’t know. Need some help. Thanks.

I have an 870 compact that I sighted in last week and didn't have any issues with 3" Apex, Federal tss or Federal hw. Hard to say what the issue is.

I may need to clean it really good. I keep it pretty clean. Now what it does is the best I can tell is it will shoot 3” shells but after firing the end of the shell is about a half inch longer and this is what won’t let the hull come out.

Never had a problem with mine ... have you tried another brand of 3 inch shell to see what it does with one of those ?

I’m guessing you have the Express model? Change your extractor to a machined steel part, the Express has a stamped extractor that will slip and not eject. Shooting the hotter shells they expand more and are harder to eject, the cheap extractor will slip. You can get a replacement extractor for about 25$ EBAY has them so does Beownells or midway USA. This is a common problem with the Express it’s been mentioned on the forum several times. 5 min fix there’s several Youtube videos showing how.
If you make everything easy how do you know when your good at anything?

Thank you very much. I will try that. Seasons are getting close to the end now so that gives me plenty of time to do this. Thanks again.
