After the shot?
« on: May 04, 2019, 09:07:48 AM »
I was fortunate enough to harvest a nice Turkey this morning.
There was  2 or 3 Tom's and Jake's in the corn field with hens when I shot. They didnt scatter to much.
How long should we/do we have to wait til we hunt that area again?
1 more guy has a tag to fill.
Thank you for your help

I'd go back out the next morning  :fud:

And congrats on your bird!
Love fishing and Deer hunting (Shotgun, Muzzleloader & Pistol). Recently became addicted to Turkey Hunting.

Left it alone for 1 day. Didn't have time to scout, which is my fault. Birds moved into a different area, that's hunting

Guess it would depend on a few things, but I have killed multiple birds from the same field the same day, and many with minutes to hours of each other.

Where I hunt, it's mainly small crop fields with small woods and tree lined creeks, so I don't take more than one turkey from an area annually, if I'm lucky, sort of thinking that I'll leave some "seed" for next year. Your hunting area may differ and taking more than one bird may be okay.

It really depends. If you have other land/turkeys to chase and you don’t want to over hunt that spot then move out for a few days. If not, the very next morning.

I shot a tom this spring and was taking a few photos with it and a hen that I ran off when I shot had already started walking back out in the same field.

I think if you shoot and go running out there like a crazy person they may be more skiddish to come back that day but if you shoot and wait for them to clear the field they may come right back out later that day.
