Gained permission to some areas that were select cut recently. For those of you that hunt these cut overs any advice? Do birds still roost in such areas? Previously they had a decent population.

yes if the have a tree to roost in, first year should be the best

darron

There is still standing timber but lots of tree tops and obviously roads now.

should be ok, third club I have been in the last few years have been cut, first two where clear cut, I hope this one is select cut, rain has shut them down, should start back close to the season...

I see you're in Michigan.  What do you call select cut?  And is this hardwoods, mixed or pines?

Cut N Run

I hunted a couple of areas like that.  We did well on higher ground along road intersections and where a powerline met a logging road.  All those tree tops made good cover and easy places to hide.

Good luck & have fun.

Luck counts, good or bad.

Ive killed a lot of cutover birds....the cleaner the work the loggers did the better the hunting was. But you only get one year of it usually.

These area's that are cut are usually not that good after the first year ... as the overgrowth get's thicker , birds take other routes ...
