Browning TSS vs. Federal TSS, JEBS vs. Carlson
« on: April 11, 2019, 10:34:26 AM »
Gun:
Remington V3 26" with Vortex Venom Red Dot

Ammo:
Browning TSS #7&9's 3"
Browning TSS #7's 3"
Federal TSS #9's 3"

Field Conditions:
All testing was done at a laser verified 40 yards off a bench in a sled.

All setups have their respective pros and cons for different hunting situations. My personal preference for field hunting is the Browning 7&9 with the JEBS .655 or the Carlson .640 and the Federal #9 at a close second. For a youth hunter I'm going with the JEBS and the Federal #9 for a little wiggle room. I feel the Browning 7&9's and the JEBS .655 probably outshine just a bit for knockdown at a greater distance given the larger shot size and the tightness of the group if that's your thing.
The JEBS .655 and straight #7's would definitely reach out and touch them as well but I think I prefer the 7&9's a bit better out of the JEBS .655 for my personal hunting style.

In addition It was also noted that the JEBS .655 had a tendency to be more POI correct over a variety of shells and offer a bit more of flexibility with ammo selection as opposed to the Carlson TSS .640.

I wish Browning would offer a straight #9 load for 12 and 20 gauge.

Yep, the 7s are just taking up space and lowering overall pattern numbers. And with 9s capable from a penetration standpoint to 70 yards, what are the 7s in there for again? Oh yeah, for the states with archaic shot size regs. Doh! Another good reason to handload.

It was a good marketing strategy for Browning, I know NJ is a State that nothing smaller then 7.5’s are allowed and I’m sure there are plenty others as well.

I'd say Federal wins.
