Do I need snake boots this time of year?  Says 40s at night and 70s during the day?  Excited to get after some turkeys in a new state other than Georgia!

At the elevations we have Merriam's, I've never seen a rattlesnake.  Quail or dove hunting yes, but never turkey hunting.  That said, I've heard of a few scattered reports of rattlesnakes at high elevations. I don't know anyone that wears snake boots for turkey hunting here, but ultimately that's a personal choice.

Thanks!  Anything else I should know that I'm not thinking about as a south eastern hunter?  I'm going to be hunting afternoons/evenings only.

Be prepared for the quite noticeable reduction in oxygen levels at Merriam's elevations ~ 8000 to 10000 ft, relative to sea level. Hunt uphill from your vehicle if you can. Nothing like hauling a bird out of a deep canyon even when partially acclimated to have you rethinking your approach. Take your time. Have a good GPS with you.  You'll dehydrate fast, carry water.
