Denny Gulvas style call
« on: April 02, 2019, 11:10:01 PM »
So I'm listening to a talk by Denny Gulvas on turkeys and he gets into some calling and it's some of the best stuff I've ever heard. So I looked up his calls, and they're unlike any turkey call I've seen.

No cuts in the reeds, obviously no back tension because they reeds are all wrinkled. It looks like they're made of proph. I've never seen anything like them.

So my question is, what's he doing that the rest of us aren't doing? I put a cut and back tension into every single call I make and it seems like most do as well.

I don’t know much about Denny Gulvas but a cpl of the call I make that are stretched tighter, I put almost no back tension in them to where there are still some wrinkles. These are always V cuts or combo cuts. They sound really good, a lot of the guys I give calls to really like them also. Calls with not as much stretch, get back tension.
