Great read. I heard on a podcast recently that a diaphragm turkey call was patented in the late 1860s - makes you wonder if any of the prototypes are still kicking around in someone's attic?

  Ray Eye would be a good one to talk to about that. He used to make his own with lead frames I believe and no tape. I think he still prefers them with just a frame.

Can you share the podcast please? Interested. Henry Bridges (who wrote The Woodmont Story) patented a diaphragm call in 1921, and ads can be seen for it as early as 1923, and is credited by some as being 'father' of the manufactured diaphragm call.

Danny post quite a few of his calls on a Facebook group called Vintage turkey calls and literature collector.  As the article describes, he has some of the most rare and valuable calls in his collection.  He is very knowledgeable in the history of many callmakers and is a fine gentleman as well.
