Do you or the significant other like Wine??? Most production wines these days use a synthetic cork instead of real cork. They are made of a non pourous foam like material which usually have a thin rubber like outer coating over the core which also works well as a lip stop. What I also like about them is that a lot of them have a tannish color to them to kind of give you that cork like look if you know what I mean. Some of them are better than others, me personally I like the ones that are not as hard that you can compress between your thumb and fingers with not too much effort. That and as mentioned above along with the "Old School" Faucet Washers available at almost any hardware store.
