Learning the box call
« on: March 14, 2019, 07:53:22 PM »
I hope this is the appropriate place to ask this. I’ve been practicing for a few weeks with this old Primos box cutter I was given as a kid. How do I sound? I know I shouldn’t be sliding into the yelp. I know the best judges will be the turkeys but was hoping for some input from y’all.

There’s a few issues. David Halloran has some decent videos. You tube him. He’s got one called box call mistakes. Sounds your picking lid up, you shouldn’t be. You also want to work on cadence. You’re not real far off. A couple minor adjustments you’ll be ok. Watch his videos

If you don’t mind me saying too, cutting is normally a two note or one note in succession. It’s not , 1,1,1,1,1,1,1, real quick. It’s more like 1,1-2,1-2,1-2,1,1-2.
Idk if that made sense. Maybe cutt, cutt-cutt, cutt-cutt, cutt,

Way to fast on the yelping and no need for all that cutting ...  watch some youtube video's and slow down your not in a race .... but you do have the right idea ... which is trying to be successful .... work on your yelps ....

This guy might be able to help you.  A little long but he covers about everything you would want to know about running a box call.
