Texas south zone opener
« on: March 13, 2019, 09:39:53 PM »
Who is hunting this weekend?  Chilly conditions forecasted, but I’m hoping at the very least that the sun will break through Saturday afternoon, it won’t be too windy, and the birds will gobble some.  I’ve had one that I’ll be hunting that has made a trail camera appearance three of the last four days.  He’s been alone too and managed to get a gobble out of him before backing out.

The birds are on fire right now. We had some success this past weekend during Youth Season and scouting shows the birds acting perfect.

I'm not sure how far south of SA you will be hunting but this report is from Karnes County

Thnx for the report.  I’ll be in Bandera County hunting M-W and could have time for a couple days hunting afterwards there or on my way driving back home.  Any suggestions welcome- thnx!

The flocks are just starting to break up and the birds are HOT!!!

Good luck and get after em!

Here in Bee County TX. Birds were pretty quiet yesterday morning with the cold and wind. That should change this morning with a  little less wind. Going to be one of the coldest starts to the Texas opener that I can remember. Usually its shorts and T shirt weather hunting.

Good Luck to all!

Got a trip to Kimble County coming up on Thursday. Are the birds flocked up or acting right?

I scored a gobbler south of Tilden on Saturday.  Birds are henned up and strutting like crazy!  What a great trip!   Texas is now checked off, only 41 more states to go!

(I'm the one with glasses.  The two birds on the right were both ancient studs.  Never seen such long, curved, pointed spurs in person before.   This ranch had not been turkey hunted seriously previously and lots of old birds on it.)

This is my favorite time to hunt....birds are flocked up but somewhat on a pattern.

As a Bowhunter, I can use the hens and their patterns to my advantage.

Several close calls and missed opps but got on the board Sunday evening.
