How do you clean a trumpet mouth piece?
« on: March 12, 2019, 10:49:08 PM »
As the title says.  I got an old call out from jerry white and it looks like there is some white dust inside the mouth piece.  I’m guessing some kind of mold since it was in a dark cabinet for quite a while.  How should I clean it out?

I was thinking submerge mp in warm bleach water but be careful to keep it the off barrel.

Thanks!

I'd be inclined to start with some alcohol or distilled white vinegar and a pipe cleaner.

I would definitely not use bleach.  Too harsh.
As the other member said White distilled vinegar or alcohol (91%) on a pipe cleaner would be my choice.    Be careful of contact with the finish on the barrel.

I use Everclear 190 Proof? Seems to kill everything.

Rubbing alcohol, it won’t harm the mouthpiece or the finish unless you soak it.
If you make everything easy how do you know when your good at anything?

Rubbing alcohol is great, and is better than Everclear, but it is toxic as heck so I shy away from it....I have thought about using Rubbing Alcohol and then rinse with water, this is probably what I should do.

Thanks for all the ideas.   I will use some rubbing alcohol but I got to find some small enough pipe cleaners and I will rinse with water too.

Might be able to get a container of rubbing alcohol deep enough to dip the mouthpiece in how far you want to, then the same for water as well. That way you don't get the barrel damp.

Simple, stick the mouthpiece down in a glass of Wild Turkey 101. Let sit briefly then drink the 101 while relishing precious memories of recent hunts!
