Turkey with a longbow

Good morning gentlemen,

This is my first year turkey hunting. It only took 62 years before I got the itch.

My question for you bow hunters ... Where do I place my arrow? Where do you aim for a quick harvest?

I've read someplace, aim for the wing on a broadside shot, and on the back for a going away shot.

I have no actual sights on my longbow so it is focus and shoot.

Here you go. I look at the leg,go up and shoot the upper 3rd. Stay away from the big bump of the wing bone. I use 3 or 4 blade expandable. Fall longbeard show typical blood when shot as described.

I have been hunting with a 45# recurve for a few years and use a 150 grain Snuffer after finding them recommended a lot. They put a big hole in a bird and he will not go far if you hit the right spot. Unfortunately, they are no longer made, so I would suggest using the widest 3 blade fixed you can find. I tested mechs but penetration was lousy on a target.
As for aim, study the pics. Every tom I shoot struts up to my decoys. When broadside I aim for the short feathers at the top of the wing, they cover the vitals. My favorite shot is when they are quartering to, hit them where the 3 lines meet and they go down fast.

I shoot them right where the wing meets the body, exactly where its shown in the pics above. Rage hypodermic or another good expandable will do just fine.

Guys if you want a snuffer type head VPA makes em. You can also occasionally see some up for sale. Wensell woodsman and Kustom King if you don’t mind going lighter also make similar styles. I’d consider a Zwickey Delta too. Head is good n makes a mess. Kinda what I’ve gone towards and am very satisfied.
Not sure if the poster recommending Rage understand you mean a trad style bow and mechanicals don’t work well.
What kinda arrows you using?

Yeah I didn't put two and two together on the longbow lol. Rages won't work for that

I appreciate the pictures posted and information where to place the arrow at the different angles.

The longbow setup that I use for both deer/bear will be used for the Turkey also, since I am already used to my point of impact at my normal shooting distances.

I read about using broadhead some of you recommended too me.
I have been using Zwickey Eskimo cut on contact for over 50 years, no sense changing now.
But, I do appreciate the recommendations and suggestions given. Thank you.

My bowhunting setup is as follows.

45# Longbow
Total arrow weight: 551.7 grains
Point weight: 300 grains
GPP: 13
FOC: 24.8 %
Arrow ft/sec:  158.4
Arrow Energy:  30.7

This is the same setup as I use for both Deer/Bear.  AKA: "Hot knife through Butter"
Might be slow, but very effective. Gets the job done.

Lots of the guys don’t know that much about an arrow. It’s a trad thing.
Eskimos are good heads too and I’d agree no use changing. Hope ya get one!

I thought about giving turkeys with a bow a try. But then I started worrying that with my 78lb pull bow,500 grain arrow and QAD exodus broadheads I may not get enough penetration if I hit the shoulder.

Im sensing the sarcasm. Starting to sound like archery talk. You need a minimum 650 grain arrow with a single bevel broadhead. Haha
