3 MOA vs 6 MOA
« on: February 15, 2019, 02:22:32 AM »
This has probably been discussed before so my apologies a head of time.....here is the run down....I am 53 (older eyes lol) I am VERY VERY Left eye dominant and a right handed shooter with a hand gun (left handed with a rife). I am trying to decide which MOA to get. With the prices of these sights you wouldn't want to get the wrong one and be stuck with one that just doesn't meet your needs. I have seen where some say a 3 MOA is to small and a 6 MOA is to big............Give me your thoughts guys....Thanks!!

I have the 3 and in my opinion its perfect. With the vortex venom you have 10 levels of intensity. Turned way down the dot will look smaller and you can turn it up and itll look bigger.

What are you using it on?  3 is a good all around size but if you are using it as on a handgun the 6 may be a better option.

I personally prefer the 3 because I don’t want to obscure my target, a larger dot may do that depending how much the distances are you shoot and target size

Only experience I have with red dots is on my AR, and I’m running a 30mm 2 moa red dot on it. LOVE it, for me and my use 2 moa is perfect.

I've looked at them from 2.5-8 MOA. Over the last 4-5 years I been using a 5 on my Truglo. To me it's about perfect. I have a 4 MOA Ultra Dot on my Weatherby Sa-459 that I like. If I had the choice of 3 or 8 I would go with the 3. I tried the 8 on a Burris FF3 & to me it was too big. But everyone has different preferences of what they like best. If you can look at different ones on a hunting setup it would sure help you decide on which you would be happier with. Good luck on your choice.

I use a 3moa in a Vortex Venom and it works great on turkey. The 6moa may work as well but I prefer the 3moa.

I have used the vortex venom 6moa, for last couple of years and like it better
than 4moa ff2 I used before.

You will blot out more of your target with a large dot.  Personally, I'd go with the smaller dot.

X2, at 40yds the 6moa appears to be the diameter of a dinner plate

I disagree I use a 6moa and think it's ideal
for turkeys. At 40yards the dot sold be approx
2.4" in diameter, that is the size dot I use on
my tar get when sighting in.

Only if you’re on a diet lol.

In all seriousness 6moa translates to approximately 6” at 100 yards and 3” at 50. Regardless, 4-6 is a probably a sweet spot for a shotgun although I like a smaller dot personally.

Well I disagree  :funnyturkey: I had a bird fly down at first light and with the rheostat on high the 8 moa “appeared” to blot out the the bird from the chest up at 40-45 yds ;D

I cant turn mine up all the way because it starts  to look like a star burst, but had the
same issues with my ff2. Probably because of my astigmatism.  Everyone has their own
preference, I find the 6moa easier to pick up where in some situations I had to look for the 4moa. If I could design my own it would have a 20 moa circle with a 5 moa dot in the center. I think that would be the ultimate red dot for turkey hunting.

Another vote for 3moa.
